Chemical spill in West Virginia

The original articles can be read here and here.

Despite this not having to do anything with atmospheric chemistry and climate change... Last Thursday, residents of West Virginia were told they could not use tap water from a chemical spill into the Elk river. The chemical,4-Methylcyclohexane Methanol, is used to cleanse coal of impurities.

Residents and officials do not know when it will be safe to drink the water again. Source
As from Wikipedia, the compound is not really soluble in water but highly soluble in other organic solvents. It is used primarily to wash coal of impurities, but Wikipedia also says that it is an air freshener.
