People are saying no to shark fin soup

Celebrities, including actress Maggie Q, are campaigning against the sale of shark fin soup.

Maqqie Q has created a video, like this one, to make an impact and educate people on saying no to the soup. According to to this New York Times article, most people in China are not aware that they are consuming shark because shark is not in their Chinese name.

Shark fin soup is consumed in China and around the world. The way sharks are harvested is considered to be inhuman and extremely unregulated since shark populations are declining very rapidly.

In 2011, California Assembly members revealed a proposal to make it illegal to possess or sell shark fins. California had a fairly large consumption of shark fins. Estimates suggest between 26 and 73 million sharks are finned every year to supply this demand for the food item.
