Cuomo addresses the extreme snowstorms heading towards New York

As the effects of climate change become more serious, we are going to have to figure out a way to deal with the extreme weather events that will occur more frequently than before. New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, held a press conference this week announcing a state of emergency in regards to the huge snowstorms coming into the Northeast. After the occurrence of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, Cuomo wants to figure out a way to build New York City to be able to withstand any future storms.

While climate change deniers claim that extreme cold weather disproves the existence of climate change, the fact is that global temperatures are in fact increasing. In addition, due to the increasing amount of water vapor in the atmosphere, more blizzards may occur as a result. Therefore, it is important for governments to figure out a way to deal with the threat of extreme weather that may occur. In the words of Cuomo, “anyone who says there’s not a dramatic change in weather patterns is probably denying reality.”
